The Laboratory Accessioner is a meticulous individual who is responsible for the receipt, proper identification, documentation, and distribution of laboratory specimens, and the distribution of these specimens to the appropriate laboratory departments in a timely and efficient manner. This individual must be able to use independent judgment and knowledge to perform all related tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for receiving specimens and accessioning them into the laboratory system
  • Troubleshoot specimens that do not meet laboratory acceptance criteria
  • Maintain contact with ordering client or appropriate agency to obtain documentation corrections, insurance prior-authorizations, etc. that are required for specimens received
  • Document and track specimens placed on hold pending insurance verification or order documentation corrections
  • Document, track, and notify ordering client or appropriate agency of specimen rejections
  • Maintain specimen storage area and ensure proper specimen storage conditions, organization, and specimen discard
  • Perform QC of accessioning completed by other accessioners prior to releasing specimens for processing
  • Remain knowledgeable and competent in applicable laboratory policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Adhere to CLIA guidelines and standards
  • Maintain an organized, clean workspace
  • Maintain inventory of accessioning supplies and work area
  • Perform other duties, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Work, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Must have computer skills as this position requires data entry with speed and accuracy
  • Must be able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must pay close attention to detail and have excellent organizational skills
  • Must have good communication skills and be able to work in both team and individual environments

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Previous experience with specimen accessioning
  • Comfortable with medical or pharmaceutical terminology

We are currently looking for a friendly and reliable Medical Assistant to join a multi-site pain management practice in the Houston area. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Obtain and record patient medical histories, vitals, test results and other information for medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Verify patient information by interviewing patient and confirming purpose of visit.
  • Prepare notes for providers.
  • Complete records by recording patient examination, treatment and test results in the EMR.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and ensure supplies are ready, order more when necessary.
  • Assist practitioners with medical procedures, examinations and other patient care.
  • Counsel patients by transmitting physician’s orders and questions about procedures
  • Educate patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions; answer questions.
  • Coordinating the daily administrative activities, including scheduling, and patient medical record maintenance.
  • Updating and scanning patients’ medical records, filling out insurance forms, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments as necessary for medication refills.
  • Ensuring compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.

REQUIREMENTS

  • One to two years of experience in a medical setting
  • High School diploma, or equivalent
  • A basic understanding of patient care, medical terminology, coding procedures, reference tools, and appropriate clinical pharmacology for medical assistant practice scope
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with electronic medical health care record systems

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Remains knowledgeable and competent of all policies, procedures and protocols
  • Ensures and verifies quality control data is appropriate for the complexity of the reported tests
  • Troubleshoots and maintains laboratory equipment
  • Follows the section’s inventory control system to assure effective use of supplies and reagents
  • Completes, verifies and reports testing in a timely manner
  • Complies with safety guidelines, procedures and adheres to regulatory mandates
  • Participates in Proficiency testing and maintaining an on-going record of competency
  • Performs appropriate QC procedures and produces reports
  • May perform phlebotomy services as needed
  • Remains responsible and accountable for all actions. Works independently, utilizes resources available to maximize efficiency.
  • Participates in process improvement projects
  • Coaches/mentors students and Lab Assistants as assigned
  • Manages all customer service interactions with tact, actively facilitating resolutions to problems and addressing the needs of clients both internal and external.
  • Maintains proficiency on computer functions in the lab processes
  • Properly imports specimen data into computer system(s)
  • Analyzes and evaluates patient results accurately and appropriately
  • Stores patient information and results to allow easy future access as required

REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in science related field
  • Must be MLT certified or in the process of obtaining certification
  • 1-3 years of clinical experience
